In the evening of April 21, 45-year old teacher and left-wing activist
Savas Metoikidis hanged himself in his hometown of Stauroupoli, near the
city of Xanthi in northern greece. Savas was a committed political
individual and he has left behind a long manuscript explaining the
reasons for his suicide, which will most likely be published in due
course. According to early information about the manuscript, it is a
manifesto against the memorandum and its effects upon greek society.
