California may outlaw circumcision of minors

I would vote this if I could: I find circumcision a very nasty way of harming young boys, a barbaric practice akin to female castration (at least in its milder forms) and a blasphemy against God (if God exists: Nature is its expression, so crippling nature is a blasphemy, a capital sin).

I also find that it decreases the quality of US-made porn (a peeled penis is ugly or at very strange-looking and puts you down). For some reason in parts of the USA it has become common to quasi-castrate boys at birth, even without asking the parents. It seems that the main reason was originally to prevent masturbation. Some figures put the rate of genital violence (circumcision) against newborns at US hospitals around 80%.

There are no particular advantages for this practice. Even if it might slightly help preventing sexual disease transmission, the effect is tiny and cannot justify the damage. The only "advantage" therefore seems to be pseudo-moral: preventively repressing the normal sexuality of young men.

It is therefore a form of castration, much like female circumcision is. Hence it must be eradicated and no superstition must be allowed to stay in between.

In this sense the California provision is clear in not mentioning any exception, being them religious or otherwise. Otherwise it'd be like justifying cannibalism or slavery on religious grounds.

  2. At least we agree on this subject. Circumcision is a barbaric practice and must be outlawed. There is absolutely no justification for this barbarity.

As for the map, I understand (but don't justify) its prevalence in countries with a Muslim or Jewish majority or a sizable Muslim or Jewish minority, and in very backward and superstitious Sub-Saharan countries, in which traditionally circumcision is fairly widespread. But what is prevalent circumcision doing in the Anglophone New World and South Korea? Are they nuts? There aren't many Muslims, Jews or backward tribals there, so they must indeed be nuts.

  3. I'm kind of favorably surprised that we agree in this.

As for the map... I like to include at least an image in most posts, makes them more lively. And if I want to keep this blog available for all ages, I better not post a peeled erect penis (I would have on my own but I contained myself).

  4. I was also surprised about South Korea (it may be an Anglosaxon influence, as many South Koreans are Christians, same for Philippines, which may be the only Catholic country with such practices so prevalent).

As for the Anglosaxons, I was surprised years ago. By now I had already become somewhat accustomed (specially because of porn movies) but still cannot imagine how parents allow such thing to happen to their sons.

It may have to do with the excessive obsession with health in much of the Anglo World. Even a very trivial health benefit may trigger them to opt for such a barbarous practice. Also note that the "benefits" of circumcision were too much inflated out of proportion during the course of the 20th century in much of the Anglo World.

My circumcised penis (aghhh!!! why was I born in a Muslim majority country?!!!) would serve well for that purpose. But I don't want to set a bad example to my future son(s) by exhibiting myself with a circumcised penis. I certainly won't have him/them circumcised.

  6. You're an example on this matter for Muslims and non-Muslims alike, Onur. Cheers!

  7. Good. Circumcision of either gender is genital mutilation. I don't care what religion you are, if your child is unable to consent to the procedure, don't cut off their junk! If they want to confirm their faith when they are an age of consent, then they are free to do it at that time.
