Basque independentist militant (ETA member) Josu Uribetxeberria Bolinaga has finally been released after the Spanish Supreme Court upheld for four votes to one the decision of the penal judge to concede the conditional freedom on health grounds.
Uribetxeberria is very ill (cancer) and is believed that he will die in the next months. Himself and many other people, prisoners in their cells, citizens in the streets and in the media, have carried on a campaign for his legal right to be released. What less?
These were his first words[eu] as a free man:
Thanks Basque People, I always trusted you.
Many other seriously ill Basque prisoners remain in jail however, many others are being applied illegal penalties that extend their jail terms almost indefinitely while Spanish Nationalist terrorists, murderers and torturers, like Colonel Galindo and many others, remain at large. Most Basque prisoners remain scattered through the geography of the Spanish and French states, forcing their relatives and friends to suffer the undeserved penalty of having to make as often as possible long journeys of hundreds of kilometers, risking their lives, only to visit them.
