Workers take the Acropolis of Athens

Public servants barricaded themselves in the Greek capital's Acropolis demanding nothing less than 22 months of unpaid wages and the Ministry of Culture backing from laying off 320 workers.

For hours they prevented tourists from accessing the landmark, until riot police intervened. They planned to keep the attraction hostage until the end of the month and they have wowed to return. At least one person was arrested.

A representative of the striking workers denounced the police for damaging the site.
