The problem of Spain, and all Europe, are the conservatives

Carlos Fabra,
your typical Spanish political mafioso*.
I was chewing on this specifically for Spain but then you look at Greece, at Italy and even the whole of the European Union and the situation is all the same: the conservatives (Christian-Democrats, People's Party, Tories...) are essentially corrupt and wasteful: they use public funds to favor their cronies and fill their own pockets.

Britain should brace for the post-Olympic reality check but the situation is clearly worse in Southern Europe where the importance of tourism in the economy inflates the tendency towards corruption even more, becoming paradigmatic.

Of course I do not wish to present the Bersteinian pseudo-Left of the Party of the European Socialists or even the real Left with institutional responsibility as clean: power corrupts almost invariably, but Left-leaning voters are more critical and ethic, so these parties are more likely to pay heavily for corruption and not delivering in elections.

Instead the Right seems almost impervious to any criticism and the case of the Spanish People's Party (PP) in the Valencian Country is paradigmatic. The former regional president (Francisco Camps) and several other key politicians in the country were all involved in horrible corruption scandals in the previous term, however the PP managed to retain the government without losing a single seat! They did lose some voters but the opposition lost even more... so they got away.

The PP of Valencia is not just culprit of a large number of scandals and corruptions, but it is also central to the Spanish financial crisis. Bankia was set up by them and their colleagues of Madrid essentially, transforming successful semi-public savings banks into a depraved hole of private corruption and cronyism.

Finally the PP of Valencia has been the first one to ask for a bai-out to the central government, causing an even greater deepening of the Spanish fiscal crisis and a crazy climb-up of the Spanish debt's risk premium to Irish levels.

The story is the same in Greece, where the Conservative government managed to suck the country dry with the help of Goldman Sachs, get the opposition "socialists" to face the problem and then return to power with their support.

And it is also the same in Italy where the Berlusconi government got the country trampled in a spiral of debt, debt he and his cronies suck for bunga-bunga parties and the like, and now someone else is supposed to fix the problem. Not that Monti will fix it nor that he is not a right-winger himself but wouldn't be because Berlusconi is just too old to make a comeback... he would most probably. Some other populist Right like that Beppe Grillo will instead.

Why?

The real problem seems to be that there is a sociological sector that is so brainwashed by churches and media that cannot support anything else but a very reactionary discourse. Those people do not vote economy or jobs... but kissing the ring of the bishop or the imaginary ass of Ronald Reagan's economic nonsense. Stuff like that.

In the Spanish case there is about 1/3 of the citizenry who invariably vote to the Right. No matter what.

And they just love to see the public money wasted in corrupt public works for show. When the money has run out, they expect someone else (the unemployed, the immigrants...) to pay for it. It is never their own fault: self-criticism is beyond their reach.

* The Fabra clan has been ruling the destinies of Castelló Province since the 19th century:

Victorino Fabra Gil  commanded the Liberal troops in the Carlist Wars, becoming tax collector in 1843, position from which he climbed to provincial president in 1874, persisting in it by means of changing party once and again until his death in 1893.

His nephew, Victorino Fabra Adelantado was provincial president in 1895.

Another nephew, Hipólito Fabra Adelantado was provincial president most of the time between 1897 and 1906.

José Fabra Sanz, son of Victorino Jr., was mayor of Villareal (now Vila-real), second most important town of the province.

Luis Fabra Sanz, brother of the former, was provincial president between 1918 and 1922. He founded the Regional Agrarian Right, which joined other similar parties in the Spanish Confederation of Autonomous Right-wings (CEDA), which became the fascist party after the military uprising after a convenient name change.

Carlos Fabra Andrés in the 1930s. This one founded Catholic Youth in the Valencian Country and joined the Fascist forces as soon as he could in 1936, becoming the leader of the National Movement (fascist single party) in Castelló, occupying diverse key political roles in the province.

His son Carlos Fabra Carreras owns an attorney office, an insurance company and several other business. Since 1983 he is also an active conservative politician, holding control of the Provincial Government of Castelló between 1995 and 2011. His most infamous corruption case is the building of an expensive airport that is still waiting for its first airplane to land. He is involved in many other corruption cases, some of which have already prescribed.

Current Spanish President, M. Rajoy, said of him in 2008 that he is "an exemplary citizen".

His daughter Andrea Fabra Fernández is national deputy by the People's Party, holding political positions since 2004. She is married to a former councilor of Madrid Autonomous Community, whose President, the infamous Esperanza "Espe" Aguirre, is a key accomplice of the Valencian authorities in the Bankia affair.

She starred recently on TV yelling in Congress "fuck them!" to the unemployed as her boss announced some of the most draconian cuts to unemployment subsidies ever.

(It is disputed if the current President of the Valencian Generalitat, Alberto Fabra Part is a relative or not).

This family alone explain why Spain is what it is: junk.

But I blame also those who vote them.

Window and solar panel at the same time

Everything looks bright in the field of solar energy, poised to eventually take over (along with other renewables and hydrogen as portable fuel and energy storage method) the dirty and dangerous energy sources of the past centuries, and now even a little more: researchers from UCLA have developed a new biofilm that does not just work as solar panel but is also transparent like glass, allowing it to be implemented to windows even more aesthetically than before.

Argentina: tortures in Salta filmed

The video below shows police torture against Native American Argentines in the province of Salta, near Bolivia, by means of beatings and "the bag" (asphyxia using a plastic bag).

The video, apparently filmed by another police officer who later gave it to the authorities, reflects a daily reality of abuse and discrimination in Native areas of Argentine.

Sampedro: "the Capitalist System is nearly over"

El sistema capitalista se acaba (the Capitalist System is ending) proclaimed the venerable Catalan author and economist José Luis Sampedro[es] in a conference in Valencia.

The author of the memorable novel The Etruscan Smile and collector of literary prizes, who was also Professor of Economic Structure in the Complutense University of Madrid, unofficially proclaimed what some of us already know: that the Capitalist System and what he calls the Age of Money, initiated some five centuries ago, is into a terminal metamorphosis.

He also said that this end is already being very painful and that the younger people are already with one foot beyond Capitalism.

He criticized that public money is wasted in banks at the expense of salaries and public services.

Another friday, another massive anti-nuclear protest in Japan

Tens of thousands protested again in Tokyo and other cities against the reopening of nuclear reactors and mismanagement of the Fukushima catastrophe in Japan.

Source and more info (and photos and videos): Fukushima Diary (links: 01, 02, 03, 04, 05) and Ex-SKF.

In a distinct but related news it has been known that Fukushima workers were ordered to "protect" their radiation dosimeters with small lead shields so they could work for longer at the expense of their health and probably their very lives (Fukushima Diary, Ex-SKF).

Bulgaria attack has Saudi signature

Although the Zionist colonial apartheid government rushed to blame Iran and Hizbullah, the fact is that the most likely attacker of the tourist bus full of Israeli travelers was Sunni and had been formed in Saudi Arabia and Pakistan...

Random Pottins has an extense article on the matter:

Mehdi Muhammed Ghezali, Swedish citizen of Finnish-Algerian background, former Guantanamo prisoner,  brainwashed in Saudi, Pakistani and Afghan madrasas, is the main suspect for the suicide-bombing attack in Bulgaria.

It is effectively impossible that Iran or Hizbullah (Shia forces) are behind: he was a puppet of Saudi Wahabbism, generally accomplice of both Israel and the USA, and almost invariably behind Sunni Fundamentalism everywhere, including the ghostly Al Qaeda.

However neither Israel nor the USA will attempt to change the regime in Riyadh, a clear sign that they are happy with this sock-puppeteering arrangement in which Saudia posts the crazy bombers and the Judeo-Christian Empire replies with selective military interventions and extensive police control inside its core territory.

In this case against Iran?

Greece: police assaults steel factory on strike since November

Image from the strike (Dec 2011)
Elliniki Halivourgia (Greek Steelworks) is located in Aspropyrgos, in the Athens urban area, and the workers have been on strike, over forced journey (and salary) reduction in spite of record profits, since November 2011.

Since then they have occupied the factory. Yesterday evening riot police raided the occupation and arrested six workers.

After that people began massing at the gates in solidarity, as shown in this image:

Chile: Nazi training camp denounced

Daniel Zamudio, murdered by Nazis in March
The Movement for the Integration and Liberation of Homosexuals (MovILH) has denounced[es] the existence of a training camp for a Nazi paramilitary unit in the South American country (video).

The same group has been recently involved in the profanation and destruction of Jewish tombs (photos).

The MovILH implies that they know the names of the people who appear in the videos and also of the fascist organization they are linked to but they have so far refrained from publishing the data because it has already been reported to the authorities and they lack of sufficiently detailed information.

Some of these nazis are probably behind the brutal murder of Daniel Zamudio earlier this year.

Spain: huge demos against the demolition of worker rights and the (weak) social state

Only in Madrid the figure is estimated by the unions in 800,000, in Barcelona 400,000... It was surely millions protesting yesterday through the towns of the state of Spain.

Hours earlier the Right, which enjoys a majority that would not be renewed just months after the election, passed the draconian cuts, while the true Left (United Left, Catalan Republican Left, Amaiur and Chunta Aragonesista) left the house in order not to be accomplice of this crime against the People.

A major problem has arisen by the unusual starring role appropriated by police and military associations/unions. This caused the General Confederation of Labor (CGT) to remove their symbols from the front banner, because they disagree with some of the organizations represented, meaning the repressive forces.

Incidentally those repressive forces have charged against the demonstrators, after many of them decided to march to Congress. Six or seven people have been arrested in another evening of fire and rubber bullets in Madrid, one of them a firefighter who attempted, along with colleagues, to prevent police-protester clashes by nonviolent means.

Strikes

As I mentioned yesterday, the Basque labor union majority (excluding the Spanish nationalist unions which have low representativity and are often considered accomplices of the government and bourgeois class) have called for a general strike in the Southern Basque Country for September 26.

The first convergent call from elsewhere under the Spanish boot came from Galicia, where the Galician Inter-Union Confederation (CIG) has called for a general strike in September as well, albeit without specific date yet.

Separately the railroad workers union has called for a strike on August 3rd.

13 die by tuberculosis in Florida

However three cholera deaths in Cuba are more interesting for the media (in some cases totally distorting the reality).

The epidemic in Florida is caused by the budgetary cuts of a far-right governor, Rick Scott, who is owner of private hospitals and hence an speculator with the citizens' health and lives.

It is notable that it was the Cuban solidarity medical team who stopped the cholera outbreak in Haiti months ago, unprecedented cholera outbreak caused by the imperialist invasion. It is highly suspicious that an illness that did not exist in America at all is now being found here and there, and biological warfare should not be discarded at all.

Two incidents in European nuclear plants

Minor in principle but you never know, specially as everything nuclear is shrouded in secrecy and industrial-military conspiracy.

Sizewell (near Suffolk, Great Britain)

According to UBALERT:

Sizewell B nuclear power station on the Suffolk coast has had its second automatic shutdown in four months. Owner EDF Energy said electricity production had ceased at 17:11 BST on Wednesday and it was investigating the cause of the stoppage. A spokesman said: "The reactor was safely shut down, with the plant responding as expected and at no time was anyone's safety at risk." The plant had an 11-day automatic stoppage in March. EDF said it was not predicting when the plant would begin generating again. The company said the March shutdown had been the first automatic one in three years and was for an electrical fault in the non-nuclear side of the plant. There was a controlled stoppage in May to fix a lubrication problem. EDF Energy said Sizewell B produced enough electricity for two million homes, or about 3% the UK's electricity needs.

Ringhals (near Götteborg, Sweden)

Per Reuters:

Sweden's Ringhals-2 nuclear reactor was shut down on Thursday morning, less than nine hours after being restarted, due to a technical glitch, the Nordic power exchange said in a market message.

The 865-megawatt (MW) pressurized water reactor's trip was caused by an elevated high-steam generator level after it was restarted at 1930 GMT on Wednesday, it added.

The reactor was previously shut a month ago due to oil leakage from a transformer, and was expected to be back in full operation after maintenance by Thursday evening.

Ringhals-2 is one of the four reactors at the plant south of Gothenburg, 70 percent owned by Swedish state energy group Vattenfall and 30 percent held by German E.ON .

Nuclear generators supply 40 percent of Sweden's power needs.

General strike called in the Basque Country (Sep 26)

It will be the third general strike of the year in this country. It has been called by Basque Workers' Solidarity (ELA), the Nationalist Workers' Union (LAB), the Coordination of Left Unions (ESK), the General Confederation of Labor (CGT-LKN), the National Confederation of Labor (CNT-AIT), the Union of Education Workers in the Basque Country (STEE-EILAS), the Farmers' Union of the Basque Country (EHNE) and the transport union Hiru.

ELA's Secretary General Adolfo Muñoz appealed for total resistance (insumisión) against the imposition of Madrid, while LAB's Secretary General Ainhoa Etxaide called for a social uprising (matxinada soziala) against the continuous cuts in order to give that money (that we supposedly do not have) to the banksters.

Unlike in January but like in March, I can only imagine that the unions elsewhere in the state will eventually join this call, even if of only out of fear of being overwhelmed by social discontent and smaller unions. For example just today there are calls for demos all around the geography of the state of Spain. The same as yesterday and the same as tomorrow.

It would be easier to just walk out on September 1st and not go back to work until the state and the EU have retired all measures and devolved the Bankia-plus problems to the private sector. That would be a true general strike and an unstoppable democratic and revolutionary force.

Black Hondurans reject 'Libertarian' genocide

Miriam Miranda (OFRANEH)
In the USA there is an ideology they call "Libertarianism". It has nothing to do with the traditional Libertarianism, i.e. Anarchism or Libertarian Communism, in which the emphasis was in personal and collective freedom (liberty) versus the tyranny of Capital (private property).

In fact it is exactly the opposite (and elsewhere it's known as ultra-Liberalism - but in the USA, you know, liberal means social-democrat, so it's all very confuse). In US-Libertarian ideology, individual or collective freedom does not matter... unless it is that of owners. It is "freedom" to own and exploit what matter and nothing else. Personal and collective freedoms do not matter for them and, if you doubt my word, you should take a look at the dystopies that the US-Libertarians are creating in Honduras (a dictatorship incidentally).

In Honduras, the gurus of US-Libertarianism, Peter Thiel (PayPal founder and liberal-fascist ideologue), Patri Friedman (wayward son of infamous extremist economist Milton Friedman) and Paul Romer (formal ideologue) are developing, with full support of the Lobo dictatorship, their dystopies: free trade zones known as "model cities".

Naturally, the Honduran People is opposed to these venues of exploitation. Now it is the Afro-descendant movement Organización Fraternal Negra Hondureña (OFRANEH), which is leading the opposition.

They denounce that under the clout of US-Libertarian imperialism, the illegitimate Honduran institutions are privatizing even the rivers and allowing the new masters of the "chartered cities" to even appoint the governors against any popular will.

So good for freedom!

African-Hondureans, most of them Garifunas, are particularly concerned because the first such "chartered city" is being planned near Trujillo, a Garifuna region. Worse, the Honduran and US authorities claim that nobody inhabits the district to be transformed in free trade area, while in fact nothing less than 24 Garifuna communities occupy it since time immemorial.

Since the 2009 coup, OFRANEH and its main speakers Miriam Miranda and the Faluma Bimetu radio station, have been persecuted by the regime and, as consequence, gained special protection from the Inter-American Organization for Human Rights (CIDH)

Catalonia: new arrests of general strike activists

Six more citizens have been arrested today in Sabadell, Catalonia on accusations related to police brutality against demonstrators in the context of the March 29 general strike. Since that date people have been arbitrarily arrested with vague accusations and no evidence, specially in Navarre and Catalonia.

One of the arrested is  Paul Llonch, singer of At Versaris and activist of the Popular Movement of Sabadell (MPS), Platform of Mortgage Victims (PDAH) and journalist for the weekly newspaper Directa.

USA: Georgia prison hunger strike continues after 36 days

From Black Agenda Report:

GA Prison Hunger Strike Continues, Families Protest, State Officials Stonewall, Feds Refuse to Intervene

Relatives protesting
By BAR managing editor Bruce A. Dixon

On Monday, July 16 about 70 people spent the afternoon in 97 degree heat outside the Forsyth GA headquarters of the state's Department of Corrections demanding to meet with its chief Brian Owens about his treatment of hunger striking prisoners at Jackson state prison.

“This is the thirty-sixth day of the hunger strike. Miguel Jackson and a number of other inmates including Shawn Whatley are starving for change. They have been beaten, they have been denied their visitation rights, they've been denied medical treatment....

“Those men in there are starving for change,” declared Rev. Kenneth Glasgow of The Ordinary Peoples Society. “When you have people who are willing to starve, something is definitely wrong. People just don't sacrifice their lives when nothing is wrong...”

Relatives of the striking prisoners, and others fingered by the state as leaders of the December 2010 prison strike were in the small crowd. Most had driven an hour south from Atlanta, and some had come from central Alabama.

“They have no rights to anything,” said the sister of Miguel Jackson. “We can't see them, we can't write to them, they are not allowed to brush their teeth or sleep on a bed... they need to be treated like human beings and not animals.... these prisoners have family out here who are willing to give them whatever they need... I don't know if they'll meet with us today, but we'll be back again and again as many times as it takes.“

USA: accident at nuclear plant near Philadelphia

An explosion happened inside Unit 1 of the Limerick Nuclear Generating Station, some 40 kilometers from Philadelphia (Pennsylvania). According to the authorities the explosion is described as "unusual event" and they claim that it poses no risk for the population (but of course who believes them until evidence is present anymore?)

LIBOR scandal cover-up in North America too

Glenn Ford exposes the new instance of government backing of illegal practices by the banksters at Black Agenda Report:

Obama's Justice Department Rushes to the Rescue of LIBOR Criminals

A Black Agenda Radio commentary by Glen Ford

“The reason Eric Holder is staging criminal investigations is because that’s the only way he can protect the bankers, through immunities and by gradually narrowing the scope of the case.”

The Obama Justice Department is in theater mode, again, pretending to threaten the bankster class with criminal penalties – prison time! – for their manipulation of the global economy’s benchmark interest rates. The Justice Department claims to be building criminal and civil cases in the LIBOR scandal, which in sheer scope is the biggest fraud by international capital in history. But that’s all a front, a farce. Barack Obama has spent his entire presidency protecting Wall Street, starting with his rescue of George Bush’s bank bailout bill after it’s initial defeat in Congress, in the last days of Obama’s candidacy. He packed his administration with banksters, passed his own bailout and, in collaboration with the Federal Reserve, channeled at least $16 trillion dollars into the accounts of U.S. and even European banks – by far the greatest transfer of capital in the history of the world. Obama has reminded the banksters that it was he who saved them from the “pitchforks” of an outraged public. He pushed through Congress so-called financial reform legislation that left derivatives – the deadly instruments of mass financial destruction that were at the heart of the meltdown – untouched.

Wall Street may or may not remain loyal to Obama, but Obama has been loyal to Wall Street, the guys who gave him the campaign cash to become a viable candidate. His Attorney General, Eric Holder, a corporate lawyer to the core, is busily staging a pre-emptive LIBOR prosecution of bankers in order to shield them from legal action by a host of other government agencies and, ultimately, from the global universe of parties that have been harmed by the bankster’s schemes – a list that stretches to infinity. Holder’s job is to monopolize the LIBOR case, to the extent legally and humanly possible, grabbing jurisdiction and consolidating the cases against the banks with the aim of reaching a settlement that does not further destabilize the financial system.

The great Eurobanking scam! Episode one zillion and one

More or less you know the story: European and global banksters get the money from all sources, fix the rates and conditions, and do not even have to run after all that because nobody is after them. Meanwhile the common citizens are being squeezed to the last drop of blood to pay for that scheme.

The Libor and the Euribor (the reference credit rates in the Anglosaxon and mainland European spheres respectively) have been tampered with for many years and there is nobody in jail for it, never mind resigning from their posts as bank heads... it's almost not even in the news anymore.

The Hong-Kong and Shanghai Banking Corporation (HSBC), a Scottish bank, is found guilty of systematical money-laundering and complicity with global drug-trafficking and what's the penalty? A petty fine. Euronews calls it "a hefty fine" but it's peanuts compared with the benefits already made. And what about the jail terms? If the petty drug seller down the street gets years of prison, the bank director who laundered his boss' dirty money should get at least death by impalement, right? Nope. They don't even go to court.

The latest is again being unreported: Greek banks are running a Ponzi scheme... but never mind, as Yannis Varoufakis puts it:

In a country where, supposedly, a new conservative, pro-European, ‘sensible’ government was freshly elected on a mandate of bolstering the nation’s credibility (at least in the eyes of Europe), this blatant attempt to bend the rules of bank recapitalisation (by means of a ponzi scheme where one bankrupt bank provides loans to another so that the latter’s ‘owners’ can inject the loans as capital into ‘their’ bank) went spectacularly unnoticed. Workers’ pay is reduced to sub-Saharan levels, hospitals are starved of chemo-drugs, ‘respected’ journalists lambast unionists who are trying to defend the starvation wages of unskilled labour but, when such a scandal directed at misleading the EBA, the ECB, the troika itself, is revealed, SILENCE. And as if that were not enough, the troika itself, the ECB, the EBA, whose will and directions are being usurped, also remain SILENT.

Nothing to see here: the whole financial system is bankrupt but if we ignore the matter it will go away... a thousand years from now... maybe.

Time to sharpen the pitchforks!

Colombia: Natives kick out the Army

Women and children of the Nasa people of Western Colombia have forced out the mightiest Army of South America with sharpened sticks and bad temper. The citizens, tired of the abuses of the military decided to remove them from the hill position they had been occupying for the last many years near Toribío, as is apparent in this Al Jazeera video:

Source: Al Jazeera (notice that the information given is quite misleading as cocaine traffickers are in fact part of the Colombian mafia-state, while the FARC does not traffic with drugs, still I found the images self-explainatory in spite of all the lies of Emir Hamad).
