Greece: 2000 immigrants go in hunger strike in concentration camps

Some 2000 immigrants kept in the so-called "detention camps" instituted by the quasi-fascist government of Samaras have begun a hunger strike in protest for the deplorable conditions they suffer in them, including torture.

Members of a group called the Union Against Racism and Fascist Violence held a press conference in Athens on Monday to explain the situation at the detention centres. They said police stations are being converted into makeshift detention centres and accused officials of covering up incidents of abuse and even torture.

Local immigrant community leaders who also spoke at the press conference called on authorities to give them permission to visit with hunger-striking migrants at the detention centers and to provide them access to doctors and lawyers.
