In the wake of the recent massive wave of arrests of Palestinian activists, it is vital that we continue to resist against the Israeli occupation. Last 17th February had marked the eighth anniversary of the weekly non-violent protests against the construction of the Apartheid Wall in the West Bank village of Bil’in.

Bil’in has become a symbol of the power of non-violent grassroots movements in building local and international resistance to Occupation [started 10 years ago in the joint camp of Mas'ha**]. After six years of continuous resistance, Bil’in succeeded in regaining a part of its seized land. But the struggle is not over as long as Palestinians have not recovered all their legitimate rights.
The Popular Struggle Coordination Committee and the Bil'in Popular Committee against the Wall and Settlements will hold the 8th International Conference for Popular Struggle from Wednesday 2nd to Friday 4th October 2013.

We kindly invite you to participate in our conference on grassroots popular resistance.

Four injured and a field of olive trees burnt by Israeli Forces’ munitions
Three Palestinians and a foreign journalist were wounded alongside with dozens suffering of severe suffocation after the Israeli forces attacked the weekly march against settlement and the apartheid wall in Bil’in.

The march began after Friday prayers from the center of the village towards the Apartheid wall. We were about dozen Israelis with the anarchists against the wall, about two dozen internationals, and dozens of Bil'iners. Participants raised Palestinian flags and chanted slogans calling for national unity against the occupation and the release of all Palestinian prisoners.

Israeli soldiers immediately fired sound bombs, rubber bullets and tear gas at participants when they arrived on the liberated land near the wall. Rubber bullets injured Ashraf al-Khatib (33) in his stomach, Kefah Mansour (32) in his thigh, Mohammed Hamad (22) in his right hand, and a Chinese journalist in his leg. In addition, dozens of peace activists suffocated from inhaling tear gas.
Soldiers opened the gate to chase and assaulted demonstrators in the olive groves. Due to the massive use of tear gas and sound bombs a fire broke out and burnt a large field of olive trees.

The Popular Committee against the Wall and settlements in Bil'in invited all Palestinians and political parties to participate in the march next Friday, the 30th August, in the village in solidarity with prisoners in Israeli jails.

As today's demonstration marched to the spring, Israeli Occupation Forces opened fire with teargas, rubber coated steel bullets and skunk. Several people suffocated from teargas and at least one person has been injured from rubber steel bullet in the arm. IOF have also detained and beaten a Palestinian photojournalist.

Even the mosques aren’t safe from the tear gas bombs

Today it was very strong and hard march nearly 50 soldiers attack kufr Qadum at 11am shooting many tear gas and sound bombs.

Tow were shoot directly by bombs one in his hand caused cut wound and the other in his back.

The most important and dangers case that the soldiers who were on the mountain shot bombs targeted the mosque which we pray before the march causing many suffocated cases between prayers of course you know that a lot of old men and children were in the mosque.

After braying we gathered ourselves again and go for the usual march but the army suppress us and shot nearly 300 hundred tear gas and sound bombs.

Don’t say we didn’t know #375

Yet again, the “Judea and Samaria” police have confiscated water tankers belonging to Palestinians in the South Hebron Hills region.

On Wednesday, 14th August, 2013 one lorry was confiscated, and on Friday night another one. In total, ten water tankers have been confiscated in recent weeks. In addition, the Civil Administration, IDF and police have demanded that filling water from reservoirs can only take place between 09:00 and 15:00; they have threatened that tankers will be impounded and the filling points closed down. Until now, water operations have been carried out 24 hours a day, to satisfy the demand. The new orders raise concern that tens of thousands of residents will suffer from thirst. Each confiscation entails payment of thousands of shekels in fines, posting of a deposit before trial, as well as payment for removal and storage of the lorry.

At the entrance of Kiryat Arba industrial zone, a tap is operated by settlers selling water to Palestinian carriers at almost three times the normal price. No restrictions there…

On Wednesday, 14th August, 2013, government representatives, escorted by police forces, arrived in Bedouin localities in the Negev to demolish homes. In the township of Kseifeh, three homes and a commercial premises were demolished, in Umm Batin a home was destroyed. The following day they demolished two homes in Abu Qrinat, then they went on to demolish El’Araqib once again.

Sunday, joint struggle with PSCC. Protesting on the roads of Palestine this morning.

At first we protested by a flying checkpoint the soldiers placed on the way from Deir Kadis to Ramallah. The soldiers shot several tear gas canisters directly at us, hitting in the chest a protester, who was evicted to the hospital, his condition unknown.
Then we went to protest by Nilin checkpoint, where the soldiers eventually dispersed us with stun grenades.

Bil'in
Weekly demo 05.07.2013. About 15 with the anarchists against the wall initiative joined few dozens of international activists and Bil'iners. We marched along the wall between the barbed wire fences up to the gate in the wall. There, people removed one wing of the gate of the barbed wire fence, confiscated it, and drag it with a car to the village. The state forces were nearly passive with few tear gas grenade thrown just to keep the pretense of power. After a long while demonstrators got bored and returned to the village.

Um al-Kheir
Two Palestinian women sustained bruises today and three were detained during a peaceful rally against colonial expansion east of Yatta in south Hebron hills. The Israeli terrorist colonists attacked nonviolent protesters kicking them and beating them with rifle butts in Um al-Kheir neighborhood east of Yatta
"I just came back from an arrest in the South Hebron Hills with two Palestinians from Umm al-Kheir and three Israeli Ta'ayush activists. The military decided to arbitrarily arrest a young Palestinian shepherd. It was completely unprovoked, brutal, and under false charges. He was blindfolded and zip-tied with a single zip-tie (against regulations). The military then issued a Closed Military Zone for a different area and arrested the rest of us when we were clearly outside of it. The shepherd's brother was beaten and is now limping on his left leg. In the picture you can see the brave people of Umm al-Kheir coming to protest and resist the military's assault. I was dragged off by four soldiers while sitting next to the woman in black. At the end of the day, we were released and our Palestinian comrades had to submit an outrageous deposit of 1500 NIS (collected entirely by the people of the village). Robbed by law. We all received restraining orders from the area for 15 days. The forbidden area includes a well and a water cistern which is of vital importance for Shepherding. The people of Umm al-Kheir, due to the close vicinity of the settlement Carmel, are considered illegal trespassers on their own land and suffer demolitions, arbitrary arrests, and assaults on a daily basis"

The villagers of 'Awarta owned 22,000 dunums of land (one dunum = 1000 sq.m). Israel expropriated some 12,000 dunums, for the benefit of the settlement Itamar (established in 1984).
In early June 2013, 22 farmers from 'Awarta received confiscation orders for some 360 dunums of their land, near Itamar. On 23rd June, 2013 they received more orders, stating that 63.4 dunums were now confiscated.
For years, the farmers have been denied entry to their land near the settlement. They are allowed to enter only two days a year, in order to harvest their olives.

On Thursday, 27th June, 2013, government representatives arrived, again, accompanied by police, at the Bedouin village 'Atir (near Yatir forest) and demolished three homes and four tents that had been built following the last demolitions.

Palestine: military repression at Qaddom escalating

Among the continuous popular multiethnic resistance to the Apartheid Regime in Palestine (Israel) that goes on every week and every day in many different points of the country and for which you can get weekly information, for example at Ilan Against the Wall, but hardly at all in mainstream media, which clearly censor it, it must be emphasized this week the military repression increase in Qaddom. First person report:

Friday confrontations in Qaddom is escalating in recent weeks in a way that is beyond any previous "norm". Rampant military invasion of the village before the demonstration and during it as if possessed. It is the second week of army thugs occupation the village early morning entering long before the demonstration starts and makes havocs. Shoots in all directions into the houses, the mosque and the village center. Then returns to its camps or like today just lurk near by waiting to the demonstration to start just after the service.

In today demo marched more than two hundred fifty Palestinians, five Israelis and a similar number of international supporters. Even before we reached it the entrance from Khaja was already blocked with barricades set by the Shabab as precaution from of attack by the army from this direction as it did a few weeks ago (after its morning "visit" in the village.

The army entered the village and fired from two centers in the front of the village but much deeper than the position of the blocked road and the left side of the hill. They shot a plenty of a strengthed quantity gas - so terrible that a few people suffocated from gas inhalation.

During the demonstration, they arrested two Palestinian television media man. Suddenly, in the middle of the demonstration they began shooting a massive barrage of "rubber bullets" (do not forget these are really steel bullets coated with rubber).

From this "toy" of theirs four Palestinians were wounded: one injured in his finger nearly completely severed it - he was rushed to the hospital to save the finger; another was injured in his arm and stomach; another was wounded in the chest; and another "only" in the leg.

Then the army entered again the center of the village and covered it with a cloud of gas - literally nowhere to escape. It was so intense and without any restraint.

So much so that even though I'm a Jewish female they invited me to find refuge in the mosque...

Also Bedouin homes demolitions continue in Al Akrib. Notice that Bedouins are legally "Israeli citizens" but that does not matter at all for the Apartheid Regime.

At Bil'in the regular anti-wall protest was this week more quiet than past ones, as apparently the soldiers were not in the lazy mood, it seems, permitting the protesters even to march through the "no man's land" only shooting some gas canisters when they reached the wall gate itself.

In the Jerusalem checkpoint of Beit Jala, a group of people demanded to be allowed to cross in order to pray in Al Aqsa mosque, one of the holiest sites of Islam. Soldiers blocked them and a prayer was held at the site of the checkpoint.

In Tel Aviv there were road blockades against privatizations and export of natural gas. A scratching action was held also against the Minister of the Treasury and bankster Ben Dov.

However the low level of interethnic solidarity showed up at Yafa, where a protest against Jewish gentrification of the largely Native city failed to get any support of the so-called J14 movement (a pathetic Judeocentric copycat youth movement). These however did hold a protest in Jerusalem against gas privatization.

Other protests were reported at Ma'asara, Nabi Saleh, Odai Qaddomi, Sheikh Jarrah, Toura, etc.

Apartheid Wall encircles Jerusalem... and California

The Apartheid Wall's section around Jerusalem, unilaterally annexed by the Apartheid Regime of Palestine (Israel), has been finished, cutting the city from its surroundings except narrow corridors towards Tel Aviv and the surrounding Jewish settlements.

Some 120,000 Palestinians are being expelled while Jewish immigrants from around the World are being encouraged to settle in. 

The wall is ugly, made of concrete, electrified. Not a tad better than the Berlin Wall. And they also shoot to kill here, indeed. 

The so called free media remains silent.

California outlaws criticism of Israel in campuses

In a parallel development the most populous US state, California, has declared illegal all criticism of Israel, which it equates to "antisemitism", in the public university. The fascist law was supported by both republicans and democrats, showing again that the two party system is a farce. Only 14 congresspeople dared to oppose the Zionist Lobby.

The law is full of Zionist hasbara cliché, mixing apples and oranges, read:

WHEREAS, The United States Department of State, the United Kingdom's All-Party Parliamentary Group Against Antisemitism, and the Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe have adopted or endorsed the European Union Agency for Fundamental Rights' working definition of anti-Semitism, which notes that in context certain language or behavior demonizes and delegitimizes Israel or attacks Israel with classic anti-Semitic stereotypes, such as denying the Jewish people their right to self-determination, applying double standards by requiring of Israel a behavior not expected or demanded of any other democratic nation, drawing comparisons of contemporary Israeli police to that of the Nazis, and accusing the Jewish people, or Israel, of inventing or exaggerating the Holocaust...

The result is to effectively ban free debate on the Palestinian issue and the Apartheid Regime known as Israel in University. A first step to ban all kind of free speech in the name of farcical anti-antisemitism.

In the beginning there were engineers, soldiers and bulldozers. It was after the International Court of Law in The Hague had already barred construction of The Separation Wall within the West Bank, and before the Israeli High Court of Justice found the Wall’s route in Bil’in illegal. It was after someone somewhere decided that more than 2,000 dunams of the village’s agricultural lands were to be annexed to Israel by force, and before countless people would be arrested and injured, and two killed. The engineers marked which trees to uproot, and the villagers removed the marks. The soldiers came to disperse the demonstrations, and the demonstrators tied themselves to the olive trees. The bulldozers started tearing the land, and the activists stood in their way. Day after day. A battle for every tree and every yard.

Seven years have passed since the first engineers, soldiers and bulldozers appeared in Bil’in. Seven years since the local Popular Committee against the Wall and the Settlements was founded, drawing from the experience of villages such as Mes’kha, Bidu and Budrus. Seven years since the Israelis and internationals were first invited to join in on the popular struggle. In the years that passed a fence was erected, causing incredible damage, and recently torn down in favor of a new wall, in a route which gives the village back some of its lands – but not all of them. The village has gained international attention and has become an example of a people’s unarmed struggle for liberation – a struggle which goes on to this day.

Beit Umar, Nilin, Nabi Saleh, Qaryout, Bilin, Maasara, Kufer al-Dik, Kufer Qaddum, Al Walaje

The last three days saw 9 demonstrations supported by AATW. From the nearly 7 years running Bilin to villages Starting to demonstrate again after a pause.

Nilin held a large and spirited demonstration, the demonstrators forced open the large meta gate in the wall and got past the tall concrete wall. In Bilin the organizers are preparing for the 7th anniversary of their continuous struggle.

In Maasara the demonstrations continues into their 5th year. Every single week for over 4 years the army has tried to intimidate the demonstrators. The dedicated group of organizers have all been imprisoned at least once and tens of thousands of shekls bail were extracted by the army. The efforts does not seem to be working, army officers come and go, soldiers leave the army but the Maasara demonstrations continue.

Kufer al-Dik and Kufer Qaddum in the Salfit and Nablus area continue to have very large numbers of people from the village. The army has been arresting many young men and youths during the last months but the resolve of those on the outside to continue demonstrating is unchanged.

In Qaryout, a village of 3800 people, about 400 men marched out to the roadblock which prevents their access to the main road. This form of collective punishment is so commonplace that it goes unmentioned. So much so that the army might not have even bothered to write down the order to close the village. A verbal order might have been enough which makes a legal appeal practically impossible not even considering the courts complicity in the army's crimes. The only hope for the people of Qaryout of opening the road is doing it themselves. They have done so in the past [see also http://www.indybay.org/newsitems/2009/11/06/18628023.php ] only to have the army close the road again. This week they opened the road again in a collective efforts of hundreds of men. They used their hands to repair the damage the IDF's bulldozers did under orders from unnamed occupiers.

Nabi Saleh was invaded by large numbers of army and border police. They shot tear gas and rubber bullets for hours. At one point a French demonstrator was hit in the back of her head with a tear gas canister. Her condition was dangerous but at this point she is out of danger. This shooting comes after the killing of Mustapha Tamimi with a tear gas canister a few weeks ago in Nabi Saleh. The IDF spokesperson first claimed to have reports from Nabi Saleh that the injured woman was hit by a stone. When video refuting this claim was released the IDF admitted its first version was not true.

The Beit Umar demonstration was joined by the 'run across Palestine '. Together the American group and people from Beit Umar planted olive trees on the land of the village near the settlement built on their lands. The army used stun grenades to try to prevent the people from planting trees and kept pushing people away to prevent the planting. Despite that about 20 trees were successfully planted.

In al Walaje the demonstrators marched down to the site of construction of the wall that will surround their village. Four people were randomly arrested for no other reason than to deter people from demonstrating. They were lucky to be released later, it could have just as easily ended up in a trial for trumped up charges. The organizers plan to hold demonstrations on Sundays ever other week.

We've all heard it. Most of us have been up close to it. The noise the digger makes as it breaks into the rocks. The fast staccato beat. Its sound hammering away at Palestinian rights. Its loud. And just like the Israeli occupation: repetitive, consistent, routine and oppressive. But for one whole hour on Sunday morning we made it silent.

Al Walaja, with a population of approximately 2,000 residents, is located north-west of Bethlehem and south-west of Jerusalem. It is made up of areas within the Jerusalem municipal boundaries (the ‘Jerusalem’ side) and Areas B and C (the ‘West Bank’ side). In a series of cases, on behalf of its residents, the al Walaja Village Council petitioned the Israeli Supreme Court of Justice to change the route of the Wall to have it built along the Green Line and not within the West Bank. 

In a recent decision regarding the western section of the Wall, (on the ‘West Bank’ side), the Supreme Court lifted an interim injunction that had managed to stop work on the Wall in that area since 28 December 2010. The decision rejected a proposed change to the Wall’s path, which means that a large area of agricultural land owned by residents of al Walaja will remain on the ‘Jerusalem’ side of the Wall, accessible only by agricultural gates and a permit system.

The village will effectively be surrounded by a wall, turned into a ghetto, all happening with the top-end Jerusalem shopping centre not a 10 minute drive down the valley.

Punks Against Apartheid show the middle finger to Jello

Well, some are more polite but anyhow.

There is a campaign going on to dissuade classical punk musician Jello Biafra (former member of Dead Kennedys) from performing in Apartheid Palestine (aka Israel).

Biafra did not look your usual fascist brainless punkster like Johnny Rotten: at least he has made some political activity (run for the Green Party presidential candidature with someone of the dignity level of Mumia Abu Jamal) and coined the popular phrase Don't hate the media, become the media.

He seems to have a couple of neurones, so to say. So why is he breaking the cultural and academic boycott to Israel and traveling there in a gig? Your hunch is as good as mine.

Whatever the case, Punks Against Apartheid has initiated a campaign against this performance: they are collecting signatures HERE and asking for activists to show Jello the finger in France, Switzerland and Finland, where he is performing before going to the Zionist terrorist colonies of Israel.

Biafra has suddenly made his Facebook page private, meaning that you cannot leave comments anymore.

Update (Jun 29): Eventually Biafra decided to cancel his gig in Tel Aviv but he has issued such a jerky ultra-Zionist statement that I wish he'd done what he had planned to do an let things more clear.

My opinion is that this guy is not the compromised lefty that some people feel he is, but actually someone with no idea of what is going on and totally brainwashed by the Zionist propaganda.

He says: This does not mean I or anyone else in the band are endorsing or joining lockstep with the boycott of all things Israel. Erm, then why bother? Either you boycott Israel or yo do not but why then suspend this actuation if you don't give a dime about the boycott to Israel, i.e. to Apartheid in Palestine?

He then charges against something he calls the 'drive all the Jews into the sea' crowd. This is the oldest Zionist trick ever. They even used it against this US veteran journalist Helen Thomas! This is about ending Apartheid and foreign (Jewish) occupation of Palestine. There is no notion of "driving the Jews out to the sea", even if that may be the end result if the Apartheid, the occupation and the genocide continue. What we demand is an end to Israel, a return of the refugees, a unified Palestinian state and that, after returning all stolen property and rights, all those rooted Jews who wish to stay do so.

But first is the Palestinian People, because they, as native people, oppressed people and exterminated people, have a much greater right than the colonists from overseas. These in any non-racist concept of justice come necessarily second, after all the abuses have been repaired.

A small victory: Israel to dismantle one of the most bitterly fought sectors of the Apartheid Wall. 

You may have heard of Bil'in, where weekly nonviolent protests take place demanding farmers' access to their lands. Access blockaded by the wall of shame and the happy trigger of the Zionazi soldiers that guard it.

A court ruling has now forced that sector to be dismantled. The camera tower (left) was already demolished yesterday.

Israel murders more people

Probably benefiting from the smoke screen provided by the Egyptian revolution, the racist state in Palestine (Israel) continues its policy of murder and genocide. At least two people have been murdered these days by the Zionist death squads:

Jawaher Abu Rahman, 36, was murdered by Zionist troops/police when protesting against the apartheid wall at Bilin. She breathed too much tear gas. She is not the first one to be killed that way by the Zionist criminals at Bilin: whole families have been murdered with tear gas, including her brother Bassem, killed less than a year ago.

Youshef Ikhlayl was murdered by settler death squads on Friday. Two death squads went into Beit Umar shooting wildly. They injured two: Bilal al-Aqdor was injured in the arm, while Youshef was hit in the head, what caused his death.

In protest people blockaded a road for an hour but then the Zionist army invaded the village and injured many. There was also a protest in Jaffa, as part of an already planned march against settlements.
