Basque Country: protests against political repression and violent police charges, senator injured

The first, quite numerous, protests against the inquisitorial attack to prisoner solidarity association Herrira and related arrest of 18 citizens, as well as closure of webpages and social network profiles, took place this evening in many Basque towns, notably the four ones with sees of the human rights organization, where police searches continued at the time.

The most serious incidents happened when police charged against the protesters in Hernani, with several injured, including Senator Amalur Mendizabal (pictured).

See video below.

In Bilbao there was also a less severe incident, as police shot rubber bullets when they were retreating from the scene.

There have been also protests in Donostia, Vitoria-Gasteiz, Iruñea-Pamplona and Baiona, as well as in other towns.

Although still unconfirmed, it is probable that a National Demonstration will take place in Bilbao on Saturday.
