Argentine immigrant probably murdered by Catalan police

Juan Pablo Torroija and daughter
Juan Pablo Torroija, 41, was, it seems, killed by hanging by members of the Catalan police corps Mossos d'Esquadra, according to an independent witness of Italian nationality, who left the country because of death threats by those same police thugs.

Juan Pablo was a legal immigrant with all his documents in perfect order. He was father of a girl and hoped to get Spanish and European nationality for that reason. But he was active in the squatter movement and the 15M protests. Evicted from his former occupied home in Barcelona, he had migrated to Girona, where he had almost no social network.

Besides his unnamed Italian friend nobody knew of his death. Police reported suicide attempt after they arrested him on July 10th or 11th, he died on the 14th at hospital, but nobody told the Argentine consulate or his main contact in Barcelona, his former girlfriend and mother of their common daughter, even if he always left her phone number everywhere as reference.

Only this Saturday the matter was known to the consul of Argentina in Barcelona and Juan Pablo's family in Barcelona and La Plata. The case will most likely be archived as "suicide".
